Sarah Hewes. PhD
She/Her
Sarah Hewes Ph.D. is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has specialized in eating disorders and body image for the past 18 years. She has been devoted to both clinical
treatment and research of women especially related to sports, the athletic identity, and perfectionism. In addition to eating and body issues, Sarah is also experienced in treating co-occurring mood disorders, personality disorders, and relationship/family issues, across the lifespan and at all levels of care. Her academic experience includes positions at Yale University School of Medicine and McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, as well as teaching at the collegiate and graduate level at four different universities.
Sarah believes that working alongside someone as they navigate life is one of the greatest gifts and one she never takes lightly. She pulls primarily from a humanistic approach integrating CBT and DBT concepts and empirically supported treatments for eating disorders, yet her approach is never prescribed or predetermined. Sarah holds the belief that people create their own vision and journey of the life they want.
Dr. Hewes received her MS in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University and her Ph.D. in the same discipline from the University of Miami. She is fortunate to feel driven to keep learning and is excited about new approaches in this field. When she is not seeing clients or listening to a psychology webinar, she is enjoying time with her family.
Recently moving back from seven years in Boston and Boulder, respectively, and three years in Miami, Sarah is happy
to be back home in CT where she grew up. She is licensed in Connecticut and Colorado and sees clients mostly virtually but also in person (in CT) upon request.
